EP 152: Pivoting Toward Profit Through Positivity and Beauty Boxes with Kate Jaksik

The power of positivity is something I have believed in and talked about for years, especially as it relates to business success, but pivoting has been the big “P word” and theme of business throughout this pandemic, especially for the aesthetics industry.

Well, when you pair the two together like my guest on this episode of Spa Marketing Made Easy did, it results in revenue because –

1 – People like to buy from positive people

2 – Positive people keep their mind open to new ideas

3 – New ideas harnessed can bring forth new streams of revenue

My guest is none other than one of my Spa Retail Rockstars, Kate Jaksik, who is the owner of Glow Beauty Bar in Florence, Massachusetts, where she and her team provide salon, spa, and makeup artistry services.

When news of the Covid-19 closures hit, rather than recoiling in fear, Kate sprung into action to keep her business healthy and her team employed.

Through that action and determination to stay positive in the face of the pandemic, Kate conceptualized an idea that in the last several months has evolved and quickly become an offering both she and her audience are passionate about.

And oh yes, it’s profitable, too.

Tune in to hear the behind-the-scenes on the beauty box craze that Kate created and fueled with her audience through pure positivity and the power of ecommerce and social media selling.

In this episode, we discuss:

  • The steps Kate immediately took when first notices of closures hit
  • How Kate conceptualized her Beauty Box idea after offering discounts that didn’t provide the additional profit she needed
  • The process of creating a new product and continually refining it throughout the shutdown to help maximize sales and profitability as well as a peek into her sales approach
  • Kate’s motivation for forging ahead during trying times and how she kept on the path of positivity to not just survive, but thrive
  • Where she is taking her Beauty Box idea next and the continued evolution she’ll pursue past the shutdown of her spa and salon

EP 150: 3 Ways to Reward Loyal Clients

Loyalty isn’t something to be taken lightly.

After all, that’s what we always aim for with every new client who walks through our doors – that they will always choose to book with us and make us their go-to aesthetic expert for years to come.

While this loyalty obviously comes from providing great service that delivers results, a key piece of business is building relationships, so when someone shows their loyalty, it pays dividends to reward it.

Whether you already have a loyalty system in place and want to extend another element of loyalty rewards to bring in more referrals, or you’re brand new to business and want to get people incentivized to come back repeatedly, there’s never a bad time to layer in loyalty perks into your aesthetic practice!

In this episode, you’ll learn:

  • Why rewarding loyal clients is critical for both retention and referrals
  • My top 3 ideas for rewarding client loyalty at varying levels
  • Why you may want to have multiple loyalty reward strategies and how to determine a loyalty structure that supports your bottom line

EP 144: Using Facebook Ads to Generate Leads on Autopilot with Jackie Ellis

There are two critical pieces to any service-based business: gaining clients and retaining clients.

As an aesthetic expert, retention is really where your focus should be as this is:

1) where you have the greatest chance of success because once someone is on your table, you have the opportunity to provide a tremendous experience and educate them on the importance of continually working with you

2) retention is what will increase the client’s lifetime value to your business

However, instead of focusing on retention of the clients who have already made their way through your doors, what I see many aestheticians and spa owners heavily focusing their time and energy on is lead generation.

It’s a constant cycle of chasing the next client, and it’s exhausting.

What if, instead of spending all your marketing time trying to get brand new people through your doors, you focus your attention on those who are the easiest to sell to (aka the people who have already bought from you before), and let Facebook ads take care of the lead generation on autopilot?

Sound too good to be true?

Meet Jackie Ellis, my personal Facebook ads extraordinaire on team AddoAesthetics who has managed Facebook ads for businesses of all sizes and scale.

As a former fitness professional turned digital marketer, Jackie spent 18 years  in the fitness industry doing everything from teaching classes and training clients to eventually managing a local health and tennis club, which is where she found her true passion in marketing and copywriting.

She knows all about the pull to constantly drive new clients through the door of a brick-and-mortar business, but as you’ll hear her explain in this episode, there is a better way, and that way is called Facebook ads.

In this episode, you’ll learn:

  • Why many aestheticians are wearing all the hats, and how it’s not sustainable
  • How the framework of figuring out Facebook ads and marketing works just like the processes of your aesthetic expertise
  • Why it’s critical to understand the power of Facebook ads and how to leverage them in your aesthetic practice
  • What to consider when outsourcing your Facebook ads creation and management

EP 143: Using the Power of Video to Sell More Products and Services with Brandon Lucero

If you’ve been on your aesthetic business journey for a while, at this point, you know about the opportunities that video marketing provides.

And if you’re brand new to building a business, the best time to learn about harnessing the power of video is NOW.

Video marketing isn’t anything new, however, it is currently the most effective method for connecting with your ideal clients for a few reasons:

1 – Video currently reigns supreme on all social platforms both for organic reach as well as for driving paid traffic.

2 – Video is highly leverage-able (yes, let’s roll with that word) in that it can be utilized in a number of different ways. My guest in this episode will dive more into the details, but in essence, we’re talking: create one great piece of video content, and get even more content out of it.

3 – Video is the most powerful medium in that your ideal client can both see and hear you, creating an instant connection that’s as close to an in-person connection as you can get.

Video, as you’ll learn in this episode, is the ultimate marketing medium, and here to teach you more about it is my guest, Brandon Lucero, the founder of Sold With Video and creator of the Video 4x Effect.

As a student of Brandon’s Video 4x Effect program, I can vouch for the success of his systems and proven methodology that shifts how online content is created and distributed by changing beliefs, shifting perspective and the psychology of selling products online so you can move your audience into a buying state of mind while growing your brand.

Seriously, he’s a video genius, and it goes far beyond the simple things like having the right lighting…in fact, that really has nothing to do with it.

It’s about messaging, about the people you’re speaking to and calling to action, and it’s about the sequencing, all of which you’ll get the high-level overview of when you tune in to this episode.

So sit back, and start taking notes, because after you’re done listening, you’ll have what you need to start leveraging video and start selling more today.

In this episode, you’ll learn:

  • Why video is the critical medium for standing out online and what you need to have first before creating any video content
  • Brandon’s three primary focus areas of content plus a bonus category that will work well for aestheticians and aesthetic experts
  • Why 1-2 videos isn’t enough to gain traction with video marketing and how videos in various categories work together to support your potential client or customer through the journey to working with or buying from you
  • Brandon’s top tips for how to maximize your effort and maximize your time when creating video to use in your marketing
  • Elements of your video you need to have dialed in to help your ideal client see and take action on your content

As you re-enter our business after a season of quarantine, you are likely looking at your business with fresh eyes and a sense that now more than ever you need to embrace proven marketing strategies that work to breathe sustainability into your marketing efforts.

However, when you have a strategy, and when you understand the skillset, Facebook ads can act as the system that operates like a 24/7 salesperson that brings in new, qualified leads even while you’re on vacation, or playing with your kids, or even in the treatment room with another client.

And now through her membership, Successful Ads Club, Tara’s helping entrepreneurs like you harness the power of Facebook ads with top-notch education and strategies roadmaps.

In today’s Greatest Hits episode, Tara’s delivering ten of the best time-tested strategies that we know WORK for spa and aesthetic business to help you get going with Facebook ads in as little as a couple of hours.

EP 134: Using Google Ads to Get Your Spa to the Top of Search Results with Deirdre Andrews

It’s no secret that I love paid advertising, particularly on Facebook and Instagram.

I’ve said it many times here on Spa Marketing Made Easy, and I’m confident I’ll say it many more, but in this week’s episode, my guest and I are digging into a realm of advertising I’m not as familiar with: Google Ads.

Google Ads are a bit of a different beast both with the intent of the ads, the way they’re creatively structured, and how you do the targeting element, but just like Facebook and Instagram, the potential the Google Ads platform holds for your business is powerful.

And here to discuss it with me and give us the crash course in getting started with Google Ads is Deirdre Andrews.

Deirdre is the founder and CEO of Define Marketing, and a Google Ads expert who helps her clients and students get to the top of Google’s search rankings so they can grab control over their online visibility and turn clicks into clients and customers.

EP 132: How to Build a Local Following and Get Found on Instagram with Danielle Pastula

You know you need to be on social media, especially Instagram.

You also know you need to be consistent in your posting to the platform, but if you’ve experienced the random and spammy comments proclaiming “Nice!” on your posts, or engagement from people who not only live in a different state, but a different country altogether, you might be thinking, “How much is all this work really paying off? These people will never be my clients.”

It’s a valid question and one I’m glad you’re asking because that means you’re aware you need a shift in direction and strategy, and that’s what my guest, Danielle, and I are discussing in this episode.

If you’re a seasoned listener of the Spa Marketing Made Easy podcast, you’re already familiar with Danielle from Episode 76, and know she’s a long-time member of Team AddoAesthetics where she’s been my copywriter and social media and brand strategist for the last 4+ years, as well as my business partner in our social media membership community, Post With Purpose.

She’s also a total expert at zeroing in on the elements of your Instagram content that are going to help you get found by and build relationships with the people who actually stand a chance to walk through our doors.

Yes, it takes a little research and some work upfront, but as Danielle explains, when you know precisely what you’re looking for, it pays off long-term as you become a powerhouse for positioning yourself directly in front of the  people who could become your next booked client and establish your brand as a local aesthetic authority.

In this episode, you’ll learn:

  • The two things you need to leverage in all of your Instagram content to get found by people who live in your  local area
  • Why the algorithm is actually a good thing and can help you get found by your ideal client when you know how to use it in your favor
  • Understanding the various categories of your hashtag groups and how to research and compile them for your posts
  • Answers to all your questions on how many hashtags you should be using and how break down your hashtag groupings to show up in feeds of people who stand to walk through your doors
  • How to leverage geotagging in your content and the strategies for showing up in your immediate neighborhood and larger regional area.

EP 130: Crafting Promotions for Maximum Profitability with Sara and Melissa of Sykes & Lanno Skinbar

Are you pulling together your spa’s promotions without much rhyme or reason other than the fact that you think it’ll bring new clients through the door?

How about drawing up a deal only to realize (once people are taking you up on it) that your promotion doesn’t  actually serve your long-term business sustainability?

If you can relate, don’t fret (or have regrets), and instead, tune into this episode of Spa Marketing Made Easy to ensure you know how to properly craft a promotion that will bring you profits!

In this episode, I’m joined again by my Growth Factor students, Sara and Melissa of Sykes & Lanno Skinbar, who are on their journey to building a 7-figure spa and doing an episode with me once per month throughout 2020 to give you the real behind-the-scenes of what it takes to grow to that level.

Last month, with just a few hours left to close out their monthly numbers and just a couple hundred dollars short of their revenue goal, Sara and Melissa whipped up a promotion and shared it with their clientele and their audience.

Want to know the results?

  • It sold like hotcakes
  • Pushed them far past their monthly goal
  • And gave them their most profitable first week of the month yet

But let me be frank: this wasn’t luck, this was strategy.

Sara and Melissa know their numbers, know their clientele, and they know what works as aesthetic experts, which is why I’m talking with them all about how they craft promotions for maximum profitability.

In this episode, we discuss:

  • How to leverage promotions as a powerful tool right at the time you need them most to meet your goals
  • Why it pays to have go-to promotions in your backpocket
  • How Melissa and Sara craft, plan, and prep for their promotions
  • How they navigate discounting, and the key metrics they look for to ensure maximum profitability on a promotion

Publicity month is still going strong here on The Spa Marketing Made Easy podcast, and in this episode I’m welcoming back Alana and Jared Mitchell of Skincare by Alana as we talk all things media and publicity!

Alana and Jared were my guests back on Episode 78 and Episode 89 (links to both of those episodes in the resources section below) where we talked about their journey to scaling  Skincare by Alana from a 70 square foot day spa room into a multiple 7-figure business that has cultivated over 25 million dollars in product and services sales.

And in Episode 89, we got laser-focused on their online zone of genius, Google search and Google My Business, but today we’re moving into the realm of media, which is something they’ve used since the beginning to help grow their brand awareness and scale their sales efforts to mass audiences.

In this episode, they share how they first got started with building buzz for the Skincare by Alana brand and how those initial efforts have also continued to build upon each other over time to gain greater media exposure opportunities.

Whether you have big dreams that you want to take to a worldwide stage, or you envision yourself as the go-to expert in your immediate community, Jared and Alana’s tips will help you no matter where you’re starting or where you plan to take your publicity journey.

In this episode, you’ll learn:

  • How Alana and Jared use the power of PR in all three of their businesses, and how they initially embarked on their publicity journey
  • Why it’s important to define what publicity means for you and the steps for determining which outlets to focus on gaining publicity
  • What it means to “build your ladder” to gain momentum in the media and their top tips for pitching with persistence
  • An introduction to their new product and how they’re using PR to spread the word, plus their advice on when to bootstrap your PR efforts versus paying for publicity management
